Gather Your Supplies
How cool is it when a project calls for supplies you already have? No extra run to the craft store and you can get it done in a few hours instead of needing to order anything complicated. This project totally fits the bill. Here’s what you’ll need:

A quick note on some of these supplies: Keep in mind that you want the cover to be pretty. Just think, you’re going to be toting this around, so obviously you want it look good! Keep the pattern and colors in mind before you remove the pages from inside. Keep the size of the book in mind too, you don’t want it to be too big or too small for your e-reader! Also, while you can definitely use fabric for the inside, felt is a nice addition because it offers padding that fabric doesn’t. It also helps in keeping the front of your device scratch-free!
Remove the Pages
Full disclosure, using a newer book might not be the best idea for the this project. Not only will you have ruined a perfectly good book, older books make it easier to remove pages from. Be incredibly careful during this step and work in small sections, using the tip and edge of the scissors to remove the pages. Go slowly, you definitely don’t want to slip and sever the spine of the book either!
Line the Inside Cover
Start by measuring and cutting the felt you’re using to size. Use your glue gun on its lowest setting—the high setting can be way too hot and can easily burn you or discolor the felt. Glue the felt to the inside of the book. Make sure to include a little extra felt in the spine of the book so that it can close. Another benefit of using felt is that it does have some stretch and give. Be sure to pay a little extra attention to the corners and edges of the book to ensure that that the felt doesn’t pull away from the inside cover over time.
Add the Elastic
Place your e-reader on the inside cover (on the right) and measure out where the corners of the device hit. You want four elastic pieces to stretch over each of the corners. To attach the elastic, use the point of your scissors and poke holes where you’re like the elastic to go through the cover. Tie the elastic behind the cover and knot, you want the elastic to be taught but not too tight, the e-reader still needs to fit underneath. Then enjoy! You get the best of both worlds when you’re on the go.
